Description

The Clearinghouse for Military Family Readiness at Penn State University (Clearinghouse) seeks an Associate Research Professor to foster the visibility and impact of the unit’s research portfolio. Working with our current research faculty, this research associate will focus on research and the development of high-quality scholarship that will be accepted in relevant outlets such as academic journals, conference presentations, seminars, and the like. With more than 15 active projects and numerous completed projects, the Clearinghouse offers a wide range of publishing opportunities. This position will periodically require involvement in ongoing project activities. However, the expectation is that the primary responsibility for this position will involve the advancement of scholarship. Specific activities will include collaboration with other Clearinghouse investigators around preparation of manuscripts, PowerPoint presentations, reports, and other research products. The ideal candidate will have a doctoral degree in a social science field (e.g., psychology, human development, or family studies). The Clearinghouse seeks a strong writer, with a successful track record of publishing in scientific journals. The Clearinghouse is an applied research center, nationally recognized for its work, that focuses on improving the health and well-being of military service members and their families. Currently, the Clearinghouse has active research projects with the Department of Defense, Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines. Projects focus on topics such as parenting, building family resilience, preventing family violence, enhancing child and youth development, suicide prevention, obesity prevention, evaluation of mental health treatments for service members, veteran transitions from military to civilian life, and families at risk, among numerous others. Our current staff of approximately 60 individuals have a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds and interests. Thus, there will be significant opportunity to form unique and interesting collaborations. Knowledge of military culture and military families, or a military background are a plus. For the right candidate this position is eligible for working remotely (relocation to central Pennsylvania is not necessary). This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
