The College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) is seeking a Marketing Communications Specialist with social media expertise and experience in writing news and promotional content for a variety of audiences. The Specialist will raise the profile of the college and its students, faculty, alumni, and programs to internal and external communities. Primary responsibilities include researching story leads, interviewing subjects, and writing news and feature stories for the college for publication across the University’s and IST’s various news channels, as well as pitching stories to local and national news outlets. The Specialist will also be responsible for curating IST’s unique story across social media through original content creation, conversation monitoring, data analysis, and identification of strategies that increase the strength of the college’s social presence. Additional duties include writing promotional content for college materials, maintaining content on IST’s website, and providing assistance at special events. Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, the Specialist must have exceptional researching, writing, and editing skills, and know how to write for various communications channels (e.g. print, social media, web, email). Strong photography/videography skills and experience with graphic design software, such as Adobe Creative Suite, are preferred, but not required. Successful candidates will possess excellent communication skills, be detail oriented, and be comfortable working in a collaborative and diverse environment. Applicants must submit at least two samples of promotional and/or news writing to be considered. This job will be filled as a level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
