Responsible for performing and directing the performance of a wide variety of specialized tasks in Professor Mark Shriver’s Genetics Lab. The duties for this include: writing IRB protocols, consent forms and associated documents; recruiting and scheduling human research participants and maintaining the research databases of genotype and phenotype data for a planned study in the Shriver lab; Assisting Dr. Shriver in writing, and then maintaining and modifying the approved Institutional Review Board protocol for the human research study; performing laboratory experiments to prepare human biological samples for genotyping and other biochemical assays; processing 3d images for analysis and preparing summary reports of the ongoing project and data; and coordinate meetings with collaborating researchers and laboratories. This person will also be involved in training and supervising laboratory personnel in the collection of human research subject data and the in the processing of DNA samples in the laboratory and in scoring and processing 3d image data. These duties require specific training. Typically requires an Associate's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in basic laboratory techniques including DNA extraction and quantification, sample preparation, and gel electrophoresis and the ability to learn and troubleshoot new protocols is expected. Previous experience in working with human subjects data is desirable. A background in anthropology and biology/genetics/forensics is strongly desired. This position requires excellent communication, time management, leadership, and organizational skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, 3d imaging software, and Qualtrics is necessary This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire.
