Responsible to the Manager of Network Systems for ensuring proper operation, maintenance of the University's state-wide enterprise WAN and LANs. The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, and correcting network troubles and performance issues; analyzing network traffic; ensuring proper operation of new network services; and assisting in development of network management tools. This position interfaces with equipment and circuit vendors as well as University faculty, staff and students. On-call coverage and overnight travel is required. Background with WANs based on Brocade MLX technology. Experience with Brocade VDX product line is desired. In depth experience configuring and analyzing/diagnosing hardware and software to include VLANs, VTP, OSPF, BGP, Multicast, IPv6, MPLS, Spanning Tree, and Layer 3 switching on Brocade, Cisco and Juniper or similar internetworking devices is required. Experience with hardware, software, and rule base support of Check Point and/or Palo Alto firewalls including Check Point’s Provider-1 software running on a Smart-1 appliance and/or Palo Alto’s Panorama centralized firewall management software. Moderate knowledge of data manipulation via structured queries and regular expressions. Experience with network monitoring applications is required. Must be detail oriented, well organized, self-starter with the ability to work with diverse teams in a fast paced, dynamic environment. Requires the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently. Must have strong communication and customer relation skills. Requires ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Industry standard network certifications preferred. Experience with both physical and virtualized firewalls from Check Point and/or Palo Alto is preferable but not required. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
