Job Description: The Woodworking and Metalworking Shop Technician supports the Penn State School of Visual Arts by maintaining the Art Shop, keeping inventories, and cleanliness of equipment, supplies, as well as assist students during evening hours. Duties and Responsibilities: Maintains to day-to-day equipment operations of all tools and maintenance of all components, including charging batteries, changing and repairing of broken blades, sanding belts, replacing sanding pads for all sanding tools, drum sanders, sanding drums. Performs preventative maintenance of all equipment, which includes vacuuming and disposing of sawdust from machine housings, emptying dust collectors. etc. Responsible for the overall housekeeping, cleanliness and safety of all equipment and woodworking and metalworking areas. Monitors, attends, assists and guides students in the shop on safety procedures, and proper functioning of equipment and its components. Reports safety, maintenance and inventory issues or concerns to Shop Supervisor. Performs other duties as assigned. Requires 1 to 2 years’ effective experience. MFA preferred but not required. Access to university facilities and studio space available. The successful candidate must possess a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of how art studios function in an academic setting with the ability to interact well with a wide variety of stakeholders including administrators, faculty, staff, students.
