Research and Development Engineer (Additive Manufacturing Engineer)

The Laser Processing Division, located in the Materials and Manufacturing Office at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at The Pennsylvania State University (PSU), is looking for a junior Additive Manufacturing Engineer to assist faculty and staff of the Center for Innovative Materials Processing through Direct Digital Deposition (CIMP-3D) conduct experiments using various additive manufacturing systems. Responsibilities include: Provide and/or develop preliminary designs for additive manufacturing processes; program path plans for additive manufacturing processing; operation and maintenance of state-of-the-art additive manufacturing systems for metals; participate in system and process selection for additive manufacturing; and document process parameters. This job will be filled as a level 1, or level 2, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering or Science discipline (Professional Engineer license accepted in lieu of Bachelor's degree), or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 1. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field is desired. Experience in a machine tool environment is desired. Experience in CAD/CAM Modeling of Siemens NX software is required. Employment with the Applied Research Laboratory will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
