Penn State’s Office of Strategic Communications is seeking an ambitious, self-motivated undergraduate student for an internship position in spring 2017 to contribute to Penn State-branded social media efforts. Candidates must have an interest in the use of social media for communications purposes and public relations, as well as experience with a variety of social media platforms. Typical daily duties include seeking out, writing, editing and rewriting interesting social media posts related to Penn State. Successful candidate will also assist with various public relations programs/campaigns. Qualified student candidates must possess excellent news judgement, knowledge of AP style, a strong work ethic, the highest level of discretion regarding proprietary and sensitive information, and an interest in strategic planning. Candidates should demonstrate Web-writing skills, basic photo and video skills, and the ability to self-manage and meet firm deadlines. The Intern will work in Penn State’s Office of Social Media, which manages the University’s official accounts on multiple platforms. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to suggest and, with guidance, find or create content for several platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and Snapchat. Other duties include evaluating analytics, taking photos and videos, and editing content for the Web. The Intern will also be expected to assist the office in engaging with students, tracking down student-focused content and better understanding student behaviors and expectations on social media.
