Marketing and Communications Manager (Director of Strategic Communications)

The College of the Liberal Arts, one of the leading public liberal arts colleges in the U.S., is seeking a highly qualified candidate for the role of Director of Strategic Communications. Reporting to the Senior Director of Development, and working closely with the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies, the Director of Strategic Communications will lead a team of three others to plan, develop and implement communications strategies aimed at increasing alumni connection to and philanthropic support of the College and its strategic priorities; engaging parents and students in key areas of the College; and driving communications from the Dean in support of the ongoing major fundraising campaign. The successful candidate should be a highly-organized and creative self-starter who exhibits great attention to detail with excellent project management skills. The position requires collaboration with stakeholders across the college and the university including the College’s development and undergraduate studies teams, faculty, administrators, web team, University media relations group, and central development support units. As such, the individual must be a proven team player comfortable working with cross-functional teams on deadline-driven projects in a fast-paced environment. Preference will be given to candidates with marketing and communications experience in a fundraising environment. In addition to exceptional abilities developing, organizing, and executing communication plans, the candidate must also demonstrate competencies in the following areas: demonstrated experience in writing, editing and communicating verbally in a professional setting to/with diverse audiences; ability to understand complex materials and translate them to a variety of audiences with accuracy; excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with individuals and teams from diverse backgrounds and differing perspectives; ability to prioritize, recommend creative solutions to problems and deliver against tight deadlines; demonstrated commitment to the highest standards of work product, confidentiality and integrity; successful presentation and meeting facilitation skills; and ability to utilize appropriate analytics to assess communication effectiveness and continually improve processes, programs and policies. This job will be filled as a level 3, or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Degree preferably in journalism, communications or public relations.
