Description

Penn State Lehigh Valley is accepting applications for a Research Technologist. The ideal candidate will be expected to: Coordinate operational activities in the cell, molecular and physiology research/teaching laboratories, providing support services to faculty and students in this area. Assist in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and standards for lab operations to ensure the efficiency, effectiveness and safety of the labs. Coordinate ordering, maintaining appropriate inventory, storage, and maintenance of supplies, lab ware, and instruments essential to the operation of the labs. Train users in equipment operation and research techniques, explain and demonstrate technology and equipment capabilities, operations limitations and outcomes. May assemble, test calibrate, clean or make minor repairs to equipment. Instruct others in protocols and instrumentation. Contribute to student experiments in the laboratory, which may include measurements and recording of observations, collecting, compiling and processing of data. Cell culture proficiency, microscopy expertise, and competence in standard cell and molecular research techniques required. May supervise lower level staff, wage employees and/or students. This job will be filled as a level 1, or level 2, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 1. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding. This is a 75% full-time equivalency (FTE) job. Will work 40 hours per week 9 months a year, August 16 through May 15, with flexible scheduling as needed. Full Penn State benefits included.
