While this position is located at the University Park campus, this advising position will require frequent travel to all of the other campuses. The position is to provide assistance and guidance to university administrators, hiring authorities, and international faculty/researchers and their dependents regarding U.S. immigration-related issues, regulations and form completion as it pertains to their employment at Penn State. The areas of immigration advising specifically include H-1B, O, TN, E-3 and employment-based lawful permanent residence. The International Faculty Adviser (IFA) will be required to process petitions to the U.S. government: Department of Homeland Security agencies such as the Unites States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP), Department of State, Department of Labor, PennDOT, and any other agency as required. The IFA will travel to the campuses to walk staff in the hiring department, HR liaisons and faculty through the processes and advise on the various regulations, procedures, and timelines required for the process. The individual will ensure that petitions and the employment of internationals are compliant with government and Penn State policies. The successful candidate will: be dependable, punctual, and customer-service oriented, requiring minimal supervision and having excellent attention to detail; be able to deal with difficult, confidential, and sensitive situations; have excellent written and verbal communication and have the ability to communicate comfortably and effective with administrators, faculty as well as deans and chancellors; have full working knowledge of U.S. immigration regulations pertaining to H-1B, O-1, TN, E-3 visa status and possess the analytical skills to apply regulations; have strong computer literacy, proficiency with word processing and spreadsheets, and good experience with web applications, and, be proficient with database usage such as data entry, data queries and database maintenance. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Having experience and knowledge of PERM Special Handling is a plus for this position.
