.The Department of Kinesiology in the College of Health and Human Development seeks a highly motivated professional Academic Adviser. The successful individual will work closely with students, faculty, and staff and will be responsible for providing academic advising to students enrolled in and exploring majors in Kinesiology or Athletic Training; sharing career information with students and assisting them in identifying other educational resources regarding careers in Kinesiology and/or Athletic Training; meeting with prospective students and their families; interpreting university policies and procedures to students and faculty; guiding students in course selection, scheduling and long-range planning; assisting in resolving academic problems; making professional referrals; documenting and maintaining confidential advising notes and maintaining confidentiality of student records; monitoring student academic progress; assisting in data management and preparation of reports, surveys, and other documentation; contributing accurate and current information to the department’s advising website. The successful candidate will represent the department and college in university-sponsored recruitment and retention initiatives including New Student Orientation, Accepted Student Programs, Spend a Summer Day, Link UP, and Majors Night. This position requires a positive attitude, the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, high principles, and motivation to work for the overall wellbeing of the student, a commitment to ethics and diversity, a strong work ethic, and dedication to the mission of the department. Competencies critical to success include outstanding interpersonal, verbal, and written communications; effective analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills; accuracy and attention to detail; the ability to handle multiple tasks, to manage time effectively, and to meet deadlines; and the use of sound judgment and professionalism. Experience with Starfish, PeopleSoft, Word, and Excel, is a plus. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until a successful candidate is identified. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
