The mission of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) is to serve as a center of research excellence in undersea science and technology. In fulfillment of this mission, ARL: Conducts basic and applied research, exploratory development, and advanced development in support of the Navy`s undersea technology base and related mission areas; contributes to the educational objectives, research goals, and scholarly reputation of Penn State; and promotes the transfer of advanced technology, technology extension, and training to the governmental and industrial sectors. As an embedded systems and hardware co-op you will support laboratory operations related to testing and evaluation of navigation systems. This position requires a mix of hands on work, entry level electrical/mechanical design and software development. Co-ops in these positions work on several projects such as designing and building hardware to interface with state-of-the-art laboratory equipment and instrumentation, programming software to interface with this equipment, software for logging/processing test data, test fixture design, performing tests and analyzing data. You will learn or strengthen practical skills such as C++/C#/Python/MATLAB programming, drafting electrical schematics, solid modeling, hardware interfacing, and electrical fabrication. Undergraduate and Graduate students studying Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering are preferred. You will be subject to a government security investigation and you must be a U.S. citizen to apply. These positions are located at ARL’s Navigation Research and Development Center in Warminster, PA. These positions will not include relocation and housing will not be provided. Students must be available to work at the Warminster facility for a six month time period.
