Research Technologist (Project Coordinator for Research Initiatives)
The Office of Research and Graduate Education is seeking a motivated and organized professional to serve as the Coordinator for Research Initiatives. The successful candidate will work closely with the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Education to set priorities and develop new research initiatives for the College and to facilitate interactions among the Penn State Institutes and Colleges as well as external constituents. Activities will involve independent planning and coordination of complex projects; providing direction for appropriate implementation of research strategies; presenting ideas, concepts, and instructions in a clear manner; organizing meetings, workshops and special events; conducting internal research competitions; maintaining records; and facilitating research communications for the College. Other activities will involve assisting with pre-award coordination of research grant proposals to federal or international funding agencies or foundations. Assist in researching, preparing, and writing various communications, publications, presentations, or reports. Must maintain confidential and/or sensitive information. This job will be filled as a level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Experience with scientific research in some capacity is preferred. The successful candidate must possess exemplary interpersonal skills and demonstrate a genuine appreciation in working with diverse audiences. Requires exceptional communication (written and verbal) skills to communicate with internal and external stakeholders to exchange information, resolve issues or concerns, and coordinate activities. Requires excellent organization skills and time management skills in order to handle multiple tasks and simultaneous deadlines. Familiarity with University budget policies and procedures strongly preferred. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, FileMaker, Adobe Acrobat Professional, Plone, SIMS, and social media platforms is preferred. Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
