Penn State University Libraries at the Lehigh Valley campus is accepting applications for a part-time, temporary Library Assistant to join their staff. The individual in this position is a front line contact for library services, and will contribute to daily operations of the library - including acquisition, processing, maintenance, and lending of library materials - and will assist with reference services. This position serves as the primary contact for processing and maintaining physical course reserve materials, and supervises student workers in the absence of the primary supervisor. Additionally, this individual participates in the collection and aintenance of library assessment data. As part of a team, all staff in the library are cross-trained to complete duties in other areas as needed. Accuracy and reliability are critical to ensuring delivery of high-quality services. This position is expected to work collaboratively with University Libraries and Penn State Lehigh Valley departments. Public service experience and confidence working with web-based tools and Microsoft Office programs preferred. Typical work schedule is Monday-Friday opening (8am) through mid-day for approximately 24 hours/week for up to six months. Days/hours are subject to change according to departmental needs (e.g. library hours, over intersession, breaks, and holiday periods). The successful candidate must be committed to excellent customer service, possess superior communication skills, excellent judgment and organizational skills and have the ability to work independently.
