Description

The Department of Management and Organization (M&O) in the Smeal College of Business at The Pennsylvania State University seeks a full-time Clinical Faculty of Entrepreneurship and Innovation (open rank) to start in the Fall of 2018. Clinical faculty in the Smeal College of Business have a primary focus on teaching and enhancing the teaching mission of the school by bringing business knowledge, experiences and perspectives to the classroom and by advancing the goal of student-centeredness. A successful teaching record is therefore required, with preference given to candidates with experience using problem-based learning techniques and technology-enhanced courses. Clinical faculty in the Smeal College of Business have outstanding professional credentials and typically have a Ph.D. as their terminal degree. Clinical faculty are hired on a fixed-term multi-year contract, and are eligible for promotion (ranks of assistant, associate, and full clinical professor). We are seeking a dynamic, entrepreneurial individual who will enjoy working in an interdisciplinary and collaborative environment. The position is an ideal appointment for individuals wishing to concentrate on teaching courses on entrepreneurship and corporate innovation, and performing related activities such as mentoring and advising students, and supporting, championing, and leading entrepreneurship events and programs across the Penn State campus. The person filling this position will work closely with the Farrell Center of Corporate Innovation and Entrepreneurship. The Farrell Center serves as the epicenter of innovation and entrepreneurship activity for the Smeal College of Business, and has three major roles: the creation and management of educational programs in innovation and entrepreneurship, research, and outreach. The Farrell Center is dedicated to enabling and cultivating industry partnerships to benefit companies, students, and faculty, and is a key player in the larger entrepreneurial ecosystem of Penn State and its flourishing “Invent Penn State” initiative. Invent Penn State is a Commonwealth-wide initiative to spur economic development, job creation, and student career success; it does so by blending entrepreneurial academic programs, business training, incubation, collaboration, and funding for commercialization. The Farrell Center is also active in developing and launching new, cutting-edge educational programs for students and professionals, such as the new 33-credit online master’s degree in corporate innovation and entrepreneurship. Key responsibilities of the Clinical Faculty of Entrepreneurship and Innovation position include: teaching required and elective courses in the M&O Department’s Corporate Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIENT) Major for undergraduate students; teaching courses in Penn State’s intercollege Entrepreneurship and Innovation Minor; service to the M&O Department and Smeal College, including mentoring and advising CIENT major undergraduate students and supporting the Farrell Center’s programs and initiatives. Review of applications will begin on December 15, 2017 and will continue until the position has been filled. Please upload the following application materials electronically (pdf or MS-Word files): letter of interest, CV, and a teaching statement which includes evidence of teaching effectiveness and an explanation of teaching philosophy. Please have three recommendation letters sent to Tena Ishler, Administrative Support Coordinator, in the M&O Department at tri3@psu.edu. The Department of Management and Organization offers undergraduate majors in management and in corporate innovation and entrepreneurship, several core and elective courses in the Smeal College’s full-time and executive MBA programs, a PhD program, and operates the Farrell Center for Corporate Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the Garber Venture Capital Center, and the Center for Teams and Negotiation.
