If you are passionate about helping distance learners consider starting a career with Academic Advising and Student Disability Services (AA&SDS)! We are seeking an Academic Adviser who will play an integral role in the matriculation and retention of undergraduate degree students studying online through Penn State World Campus in all fifty states and around the world. You will serve as the lifeline between Penn State online learners and the University; complete undergraduate degree audits and assist with course selection; coach, troubleshoot, and advocate; proactively communicate with students via e-mail, telephone, chat, virtually, i.e. Skype, and postal mail; participate on related teams; and assist with strategic planning. In addition to advising, you will contribute to the creative development and management of online support resources and engagement activities for World Campus students. We seek candidates who are able to demonstrate experience and ability to advance Outreach’s diversity initiative. Hours of work will be from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, Eastern Standard Time. This position is located at University Park, PA. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree or higher in adult education, counselor education, or higher education, plus two related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred. Competencies critical to success are demonstrated passion for serving students; ability to build strong partnerships with students who you may never meet in person; exceptional external and internal customer service instincts; commitment to team and accountability for the whole; data-driven decision making; follow-through and attention to detail; genuine comfort working in a large, rapidly changing organization; ability to manage a work week that may exceed 40 hours during peak times; excellent verbal and written communication skills; and a sense of humor. Computer competencies needed are: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, chat, student records systems, and e-mail. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility for re-funding.
