The College of Nursing at Penn State is currently seeking Research Assistants to help with data collection for a $2.4 million, four year R01 grant from the National Institute of Aging entitled “READI: Researching Efficient Approaches to Delirium Identification.” This project is jointly led by Dr. Donna Fick, Professor of Nursing in the Penn State College of Nursing and Dr. Edward Marcantonio, Professor of Medicine at the Harvard Medical School. The goals of this grant are to develop a practical, effective, and cost-efficient protocol for detection and monitoring of delirium in high risk hospitalized older adults and to generate the evidence base needed to facilitate its widespread implementation. This position provides an opportunity to work with older adults, research experience, and some flexibility with scheduled days/hours. The responsibilities for this position include: describing the study, procedures, risks, benefits, and eligibility requirements to clinicians and study subjects for screening; consenting and enrolling prospective subjects; data collection from cognitive assessments, medical chart review, and interviews; and attendance at team meetings. Candidates will have the following required qualifications: ability to communicate professionally with participants and research team members; flexible and professional with strong interpersonal and organizational skills; and comfortable working with hospitalized older adult participants, their families, and clinical staff. Preferred qualifications for this position include: registered nurse or health care professional; experience working with persons with delirium; previous research experience, especially data collection in a hospital setting; experience with conducting interviews; and experience with using an iPad device. This is a part-time, wage payroll position funded through September 01, 2018 with an excellent possibility of re-funding through 2020.
