The Science BS/MBA accelerated joint degree program is seeking qualified graduate students and seniors to serve as Teaching Assistants for one or more of the four modules for SC 497, a one-credit Spring 2018 Seminar Course for BS/MBA undergraduate students. The primary goal of the course is to provide an opportunity for BS/MBA students to become familiar with key MBA concepts that will be useful for Co-ops, Internships and the Smeal MBA itself. Modules are: Leadership, Organizational Behavior, and Modern Management; Finance; Marketing; Supply Chain Management. Each module will occur over a 4-week period, and will involve self-guided and small group study with interim assignments due during the module. There will be one 3-hour class meeting at the end of each module. The TA responsibilities include: Identifying materials for self-study from available sources including on-line resources (e.g., MOOCs, YouTube), journal articles (e.g., HBR, McKinsey, Deloitte), and Penn State Library and other resources; assisting in the creation of the course syllabus on Canvas; Meeting with students, as needed, to assist them in their self-study; managing online course materials; preparing quiz materials; grading student submissions; attending the class meeting for the topic to facilitate, provide feedback and grade presentations. Related work experience is a plus and applicants must have taken relevant courses in the discipline. Applicants should identify the module or modules for which you are applying, while also submitting a brief cover letter that includes ideas on how they would structure the module(s), and identify some resources they recommend employing.
