Global Programs at Penn State is seeking one or more Strategic Engagement Coordinators to facilitate Penn State’s Global Engagement. Each Coordinator is responsible for broad integration and utilization of our strategic partnerships by Penn State’s faculty and academic units, in order to grow international engagement that spans the mission of the University. Each Coordinator focuses on a different region of the world. Our current priority is for our European Strategic Partners (University of Freiburg, Germany and University of Split, Croatia), as well as newly developing partnerships in Sub-Saharan Africa, Australia, and South America. The individual will be the point person to coordinate and promote engagement of Penn State faculty, staff and students with our strategic partners. As such, the duties focus on developing mechanisms to identify/connect/foster utilization of the Strategic Partner collaborative opportunities within Penn State. The Coordinator will work closely with specific partner institutions to: identify collaborative opportunities between the partners in teaching, research and service; collaborate with the office of the Vice President for Research to identify national and international funding opportunities for faculty and student participation; proactively support Penn State units/personnel to pursue opportunities; develop and maintain a database of engagement activities providing periodic status reports; proactively coordinate communication between the universities; work with communication departments at both universities to promote the engagement with collaboration releases and stories of interest. The coordinator must be able to convincingly articulate the benefits of the University’s global engagement strategies to a broad spectrum of stakeholders, both internal and external – faculty, academic units, academic leaders, funding agencies, foundations, etc. The position requires strategic and routine communication with faculty, staff, and departments around the Penn State community and creation of a support network of colleagues within the Global Engagement Network. Excellent communication skills are necessary. Working experience in international business and/or international research, particularly in one of our priority regions, is a significant plus. Advanced project management experience is highly desirable. A candidate with significant education abroad, working and/or living abroad is also preferred and the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures is a must. Regional language skills and familiarity with the regional higher education systems would be a plus. The successful candidate will have excellent communication, organizational, and computer skills in addition to proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, OneNote, and experience working with database software. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Ph.D. is preferred. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
