The Institute for CyberScience (ICS) seeks a student communications intern for a marketing and web copywriting position in Spring 2018. ICS is a research institute that supports Penn State researchers who use computational or data-driven methods across a range of disciplines. Intern Responsibilities: The Intern will support the Institute’s communications team in outreach initiatives to ICS-affiliated faculty and other Penn State researchers. Core responsibilities include compiling weekly email news digests, updating web pages or creating new pages and forms, and writing news releases. Other responsibilities may include assisting in event planning and execution, creating PowerPoint presentations about ICS, researching/acquiring photos and images; and writing copy for/updating print productions. Qualifications: We’re looking for a a detail-oriented person who’s interested in science and engineering and has basic knowledge of best practices in public relations, news writing, and web copywriting. Expect to be working both independently and on team projects. Experience with MailChimp, WordPress, and PhotoShop (or similar applications)is preferred. Candidates should possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines. Basic knowledge of InDesign, SEO, and photography and/or videography skills is a plus. This is a paid internship for Spring 2018 with the strong possibility of renewal for subsequent semesters. Intern must be available to work approximately 12 hours/week during the spring semester; possibility of 20 hrs/week in Summer 2018. The opportunity is open to both undergraduates and graduate students.
