Penn State’s World Campus located in University Park, PA has an opening for an enthusiastic, team-oriented Instructional Designer to partner with faculty to design, develop, and consult on online courses that reach Penn State’s diverse population of online students. You will work with other members of the development and delivery team, and use a range of technologies and systems to develop dynamic, pedagogically-sound, and technologically-appropriate online courses. The job requires a solid understanding of the principles of instructional theory; the ability to research existing and emerging educational technologies and appropriately apply them to meet the intended learning objectives; and an in-depth understanding of instructional design issues related to teaching and learning in distance/on-line courses. You must be able to effectively convey to faculty the advantages and disadvantages of various pedagogical techniques. The successful candidate must demonstrate highly effective skills in verbal and written communication, relationship building, and collaboration within a team-based environment. Experience using a learning management system such as Canvas is preferred. This job will be filled as a level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs.
