Description

The School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science is seeking an IT Support Specialist to provide first and second-level desktop support for PC, Apple, and Linux based computing for the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS). Responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to, the following tasks: 1st and 2nd level end-user support for analyzing/diagnosing Windows, Apple, and Linux operating system issues; recording and streaming EECS colloquiums and events; imaging Windows, Apple, and Linux desktop workstations; ensuring proper operation of software on end-user workstations; documentation of EECS computing processes; and provide application support for EECS end-users. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A candidate for this position is required to have the following experience: knowledge, use, and administration of Windows, Apple, and Linux operating systems; analyzing/diagnosing hardware and software issues of computer systems; basic knowledge of networking infrastructure; and a basic understanding of multi-media equipment and standards. Excellent customer service skills, as well as written and verbal communication skills, are also required. The following experience is preferred: Windows, Apple, and Linux systems in a domain environment; system security best practices; hardware and software based encryption practices; audio/video equipment set up and operation; and streaming/conferencing software applications. A candidate for this position will be able to balance tasks and priorities, and be able to communicate technical issues to all level of users. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
