We are seeking a Graduate Student Success Specialist who will play an integral role in the matriculation and retention of graduate degree students in the residential and online programs of the School of Public Affairs (SPA) at Penn State Harrisburg. The graduate student success specialist will track and follow-up on student activation status/student activation strategy; serve as a student case manager, coaching students, advocating for them, and proactively communicating with students and faculty members of the programs; and provide general administrative advising services such as analyzing and explaining degree requirements, conducting degree audits, troubleshooting errors in their records, etc. The Graduate Student Success Specialist will work closely with the professors in charge of the various graduate programs in the SPA. This position is located in Middletown, PA. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preference for a degree in public administration, criminal justice, health administration, homeland security, or political science. Competencies critical to success include: demonstrated passion for serving students; ability to build strong partnerships with students, many of whom you may never meet in person; commitment to teamwork and accountability to the director of the SPA and program leaders; follow-through and attention to detail; genuine comfort working in a large, rapidly changing organization; excellent verbal and written communication skills; and a sense of humor. Computer competencies needed are: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, audio and video conferencing, student record database systems, and e-mail.
