The Information Technology Services Division of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State is seeking a Systems Administrator for the Infrastructure Department to provide general and classified systems support to ARL. Responsibilities include: Design, implement, maintain, secure, and continuously improve IT systems in support of ARL's research mission: provide specialized assistance in the evaluation and use of computer hardware and software in a heterogeneous enterprise networked environment; support and administer core computer services, such as Exchange, VMware clusters, network file sharing, and print services; and support researchers and administrative staff in all aspects of their classified and unclassified computing needs. This job will be filled as a level 3, or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science is desired. An IT Security Certification is preferred. Prior experience working with Department of Defense or Federal related computing systems is an asset. Requirements include: Experience with systems administration in a large enterprise environment; skills to automate repetitive tasks using Windows PowerShell or other scripting techniques; expertise in storage architecture technologies/SAN environments; background in supporting multiple operating systems; and knowledge and experience in a Windows Active Directory environment. Personal attributes include: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; the ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively, to solve problems; and the ability to work effectively with users, understanding their needs, and presenting tact and judgment in developing solutions to resolve user issues.
