The Department of Physics at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking one or more postdoctoral scholars in gravitational-wave physics. The Penn State LIGO Scientific Collaboration group consists of faculty members Chad Hanna and B.S. Sathyaprakash, a computational scientist, two postdoctoral fellows, and several graduate students. The successful applicants are expected to contribute to one or more of the following research topics: searches for compact binary mergers, tests of the strong field dynamics in general relativity, assessing astrophysical models of compact binaries, building waveform models for binary neutron star mergers and using them to measure the equation-of-state of neutron star cores, exploiting gravitational-wave observations for cosmography and building the science case for third generation ground-based detectors. The successful candidates will be part of the LIGO scientific Collaboration and contribute to the analysis of LIGO and Virgo data and to the publication of search results. These positions require a Ph.D. in physics, astronomy or a closely related field. Applications must be submitted electronically and include a cover letter and CV.
