Physician scientist at Penn State Hershey, Pediatric Hematology - Oncology division is seeking a qualified, motivated, and accountable Lab Technician (level I or II) to join a talented research team focusing on developmental therapeutic studies to identify and validate potential targets that can be targeted for treatment of hematological malignancies. The research project focuses on testing new drug combinations in pediatric leukemia and neuroblastoma. Job involves execution of experiments and data analysis, record keeping, ordering lab supplies, preparing IACUC protocols, etc. Good laboratory practice with regard to conducting experiments, record keeping and organizing data required. Candidate will be expected to work on the above independently and/or with senior investigators. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic and ambitious to learn. Principal Responsibilities: Molecular biology approaches including western blot, RTPCR and DNA, RNA, and proteins extraction. Cell and tissue culture, cytotoxicity assay. Immunology approaches including immunophenotyping, flow cytometry. General lab management and accurate documentation and maintenance of data files. Animal husbandry, drug administration, genotyping, data collection, and interacting with veterinary staff in animal facility. This job will be filled as a level 1, or level 2, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 1. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Bachelor of Science degree in Biology or related science or Master's in science preferred. Bench research experience is preferred. Attention to detail, ability to record and manage large data files, and ability to coordinate assignments on a day-to-day basis. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire.
