Description

Design Services provides complete architectural and engineering services for construction projects on the various Penn State campuses. Projects are primarily renovations, remodels and repairs to the University’s buildings, facilities and infrastructure. The Facilities Designer (Mechanical) provides support for and participates in the planning, documentation and design processes for building renovation projects at University facilities. The Designer works under the direct supervision of Design Engineers (Professional Engineers) or others associated with facility management on projects requiring expertise with HVAC, plumbing, hydronic, and building automation controls systems. Successful candidates will have training and/or experience with facilities design tasks such as AutoCAD or Revit drawing production, mechanical code review, heating and cooling load calculations, equipment selection, ductwork and piping system design, and completing work within predefined schedules and budgets. The ability to identify energy conservation opportunities associated with HVAC and building envelope systems is desired. Candidate must be able to work well within a team, take direction as well as lead individual (typically single discipline) efforts. Professional registration (P.E.) is not required. This job will be filled as a level 1, level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires an Associate's degree or higher in Design Technology or Construction Technology or related discipline or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 1. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs.
