Spotted Lanternfly is currently found in six Southeastern Pennsylvania counties. The pest achieves extremely high population levels, and this is noticed by property owners. Currently through existing outreach efforts, affected citizens seek information by calling local extension offices, PA Department of Agriculture (PDA) Offices, and by contact through Facebook and email. The public and industry reports and requests for information are overwhelming the existing resources dedicated to these duties at extension offices and PDA. This position is responsible for providing coordination to Spotted Lanternfly outreach and response efforts. The position will coordinate efforts with State and Federal Agencies involved in Spotted Lanternfly activities. This will include chairing (at a minimum quarterly) outreach meetings with representatives from PDA, PA Game Commission, PA Department of Environmental Protection, PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Penn State, and USDA. The position should also work with professional societies and industries to develop outreach campaigns and messaging (examples include, the PA Wine Association, Welch's, National Hop Growers of America). Additionally, this position should coordinate the flow of public contacts through the existing extension and state agency network to ensure that citizens are appropriately directed to resources. This would include ensuring that extension offices are appropriately trained to handle routine reports and requests for information about Spotted Lanternfly and filter higher level calls to the appropriate cooperating agencies. This position should also assist Penn State faculty and students who are working on control manuals and outreach for Spotted Lanternfly. Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Master's degree in Entomology or related field is required. This is a fixed-term appointment funded through June 30, 2018 with excellent possibility of re-funding.
