Research and Development Engineer (Software Engineer)

The Synthetic Environment Applications Lab at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State is looking for a Software Engineer. Responsibilities include: software and system integration, operation and maintenance, data integration, technical task execution and reporting. Individual will assume a technical leadership role and require the individual to work with other ARL personnel and sponsors in a classified environment. This job will be filled as a level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering or Science discipline or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Science and Technology or Computer Engineering is desired. Background in cloud, advanced computer graphics, databases, web-based technologies, user interface design and testing, and networked systems, both hardware and software preferred. Also preferred, experience with C++, C, JAVA, Python, Git, SQL, HTML/CSS, Unity and SCI Systems. Experience developing and integrating end user applications on different hardware platforms is required. Candidate selected may be subject to a government security investigation. You must be a U.S. citizen to apply. Employment with the Applied Research Laboratory will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen. This is a one-year, fixed-term renewable appointment.
