The Resident Assistant Director (RAD) provides direct supervision of all resident assistants (RA) who are employed at the Early Reach Academy at Penn State Harrisburg. RAD must have successfully completed at least one year of college and be currently enrolled or completed an undergraduate degree. In addition, the RAD provides support to student participants. The Early Reach Academy is a three-week experience for high school students with disabilities. The RAD plays a vital role in developing a positive, safe, and enriching program experience for RAs and students. The RAD works closely with the students, resident director (RD), RAs, program directors, and staff and reports directly to the resident director. The RAD must be committed to creating an inclusive environment where all students can reach their potential emotionally, socially, intellectually, physically and culturally, willing to encourage RAs and students to reach their highest level of potential at all times, open to efficient and effective communication with RD, RAs, students and staff, and able to connect with staff and students genuinely and significantly. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, supervision of approximately 30 RAs; overseeing 25-30 students in dormitory setting; monitoring RA tasks; chaperoning and supervising activities on and off campus; assisting staff with preparation, organization, and instruction of activities inside/outside of the classroom; attending scheduled training and meeting paper work deadlines; overseeing weekend and evening activities in conjunction with staff; supervise “late watch” rounds of the dormitory setting to enforce curfew and lights out; enforce the rules, regulations and policies of Penn State Harrisburg housing, as well as the information provided during staff orientation; report illnesses, accidents, behavior problems, maintenance issues and cases of loss/damaged/stolen property to the resident director and program manager. Ability to communicate clearly in person and/or in written format. Ability to relate to students and staff in a professional and productive manner. Coordinate and implement planned activities. Ability to travel independently while performing all job duties. Ability to independently complete all assignments, responsibilities and duties listed above. Ability to maintain confidentiality while handling information and notes pertaining to students. Candidate must be able to walk for extended amounts of time, have the ability to lift between 25-50 lbs., and possibly participate in intense physical activities. Employment will require attendance at the RA training orientation days from July 5 - July 7, 2018. Daily work will vary based on the Early Reach Academy Schedule. On campus housing, meals, and parking passes will be provided by Penn State Harrisburg.
