A full-time Research Technologist position is available for a tick control study in Prince George's and Howard County, Maryland beginning immediately. The Research Technician will be primarily responsible for weekly maintenance of approximately 30 4-Poster deer feeders in a suburban area. The Technologist will also accompany researchers to survey ticks, and assist with small mammal and white-tailed deer trapping. Candidate qualifications include 1) ability to lift 50 lbs, walk long distances over uneven terrain and marsh with biting insects, 2) ability to conduct field work at night, adapt to highly variable work, 3) ability to work long/irregular hours, 4) ability to identify Maryland vegetation, 5) demonstrated field experience capturing and handling small mammals, include blood and tissue sampling, 6) previous experience sampling for ticks using dragging and flagging methods, 7) demonstrated experience maintaining 4-Poster deer feeders, 8) previous experience trapping and handling white-tailed deer using drop nets, 9) ability to communicate and recruit the public for study sites, 10) experience with handling and shipping hazardous materials, and 11) possess valid drivers license. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Bachelor's Degree in wildlife conservation, biology, ecology, or similar is strongly preferred. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
