Description

The Mechanical Engineering Support Office, part of the Undersea Systems Office (USO) at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL), is looking for an Engineering Support Specialist to support multiple projects within the USO. Responsibilities include: assisting in the design, assembly, rework, and testing of mechanical systems associated with navy related programs. Additional responsibilities include: writing procedures and test plans, testing instrument setup, materials selection, parts purchasing, and problem solving. The candidate will work closely with engineers, engineering support specialists, draftsmen, machinists, and experimenters. This job will be filled as a level 1, level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires an Associate's degree or higher , or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 1. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. An Associate’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or Engineering Technology, graduation from a technical trade school or military experience is desired. A background in pneumatics, electrical systems, hydraulics, underwater systems and electrical wiring preferred. Additional preferred experience is working with CAD software (Siemens NX, Solidworks or equivalent). It is required to have experience with mechanical systems, reading mechanical drawings, and machine shop practices. Travel to field sites may be required. Candidates selected will be subject to a government security investigation. You must be a U.S. citizen to apply. Employment with the Applied Research Laboratory will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen. These are one-year, fixed-term renewable appointments.
