Research Technologist
Description
The laboratory of Professor Alexey Silakov in the Department of Chemistry at Penn State University seeks to fill a Research Lab Technologist position. Areas of experience that are specifically sought are recombinant DNA methods and protein over-expression and purification. Responsibilities of the position will include design, execution and interpretation of experiments to define metalloenzyme mechanisms, ordering and inventory, and laboratory maintenance and administration. Experience working with spectroscopic methods such electron paramagnetic resonance, UV/Vis absorption and/or FT-IR is preferred, but not required. Candidates will be evaluated both on their accomplishments as enumerated in their application and on the fit of their prior training and expertise to the needs of our research program. This job will be filled as a level 1, or level 2, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 1. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. The successful candidate will have a B.S. degree or higher in science or engineering and will have experience in hands-on laboratory work and laboratory administration. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from the date of hire with possibility of re-funding.
