The Institute for Natural Gas Research (INGAR) at the Pennsylvania State University has a postdoc position opening in the fall of 2017 in the department of Energy and Mineral Engineering. The position is funded by INGAR to design a “virtual asset” for oil and gas industrial data analysis and to generate preliminary results using geostatistics, big data analysis, and machine learning. The postdoc’s responsibilities will be industrial in nature – interfacing with oil and gas companies to down-select the data analyses of greatest impact, collaborating with a team of graduate students and faculty to create a design for the virtual asset, and analysis of generated results. The postdoc will communicate with potential sponsors as the team lead. Requirements and qualifications: Applicants should have a Ph.D. in earth sciences, chemical engineering, computer science or related field. The applicant must have intermediate experience in a programming language such as Python or C++ as well as experience with statistical analysis. In the event of several qualified candidates, two postdoc positions may be filled. The position will last for one year with possibility of renewal for a second year.
