Description

Penn State Berks is accepting applications for a part-time Facilities Coordinator responsible for managing operations of the Maker Space in the Langan LaunchBox located at Penn State Health St. Joseph Downtown Reading complex. The Maker Space is a place in which people (students and community members) with shared interests, especially in technology, gather to work on projects. The Maker Space is equipped with 30 printers, laser cutters, various fabrication tools, and more. Responsibilities include: Managing day-to-day operations and acting as facility manager; coordinating activities with appropriate Penn State staff; managing and monitoring facility access, including the certification of users for equipment and tools; developing and administering processes for scheduling use of the space(s); responding to online and phone inquiries related to the Maker Space; installing and maintaining equipment and supplies to meet the health, safety and accessibility standards as defined by Penn State; teaching and mentoring students and community members interested in working at the Maker Space; reviewing and recommending changes based on the needs of the entrepreneurs using the space; and supporting the expansion of the use of the space. Candidates must be willing to work evenings and weekends when the Maker Space is open (current hours are 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., Monday-Thursday and Saturday Morning 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. The person must have a demonstrated ability to cultivate, build, and maintain strong working relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds and perspectives; have excellent written and verbal communications skills; be comfortable working with, and mentoring students and community members, including children; and preferably have previous experience with workshop equipment and tools. Associate's degree or equivalent education and experience is required, preferably in a technical discipline. Please upload a cover letter and resume with your application.
