The Researcher (Associate Director) for the Goodling Institute for Research in Family Literacy and Institute for the Study of Adult Literacy will be responsible for conducting research, pursuing funding, and teaching to support the Institutes’ research, professional development, and policy agendas. The primary responsibilities include assisting with writing grant proposals; conducting program evaluations and research on adult and family literacy-related topics; publishing research articles, reports, and research, policy, and practitioner briefs; presenting research and evaluation findings at professional conferences; assisting with developing and coordinating the World Campus Post-Baccalaureate Adult Basic Education and Family Literacy Certificates; teaching up to two online Certificate courses per year; and developing and maintaining relationships with other research, policy, and practitioner organizations working on adult education and family literacy issues. In addition, this position will serve as the PI for the Toyota Family Learning Evaluation (TFL)—a 15-site, multi-city, five-year, independent formative evaluation. Applicants should have at least a Master’s degree in Adult Education or a closely related field (doctorate preferred); professional experience in adult and/or family literacy; familiarity with adult and/or family literacy practice, research, and policy; and experience conducting qualitative and/or quantitative research and evaluations. A successful candidate should also possess strong organizational, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills. Desirable qualifications include experience with online teaching, familiarity and experience with ESL and immigrant education, and grant writing expertise. Some travel is required. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for three years from date of hire with a likelihood for renewal.
