Description

The Department of Physics seeks a multidisciplinary scientist with expertise in nanomaterials synthesis, bio-engineering, and infectious diseases to construct devices for biological applications with a clear impact in infectious diseases and neural engineering. The research will be focused on: 1) Synthesis and characterization of Aligned Carbon Nanotubes and Two-dimensional (2D) Materials and their Functionalization; 2) Fabrication of miniaturized micro-platforms for infectious disease studies, in order to develop novel pathogen capture technologies and study virus evolution and disease transmission, and 3) Design, construction, functional adaptation and response, and optimization of adaptable origami and kirigami platforms, able to bend, fold, maneuver and functionally respond to various external stimuli, in order to build adaptable/robust/autonomous smart systems with unique emergent properties and functions such as neural growth. Applicants must have a Ph.D. and applications must be submitted electronically. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from the date of hire with the possibility of re-funding.
