Penn State Abington is searching for a Division Head for Social Sciences to begin July 1, 2018. The Division Head oversees approximately 50 full-time faculty members and Bachelor’s degree programs in Accounting, Business, Education, Criminal Justice, Nursing, Psychological and Social Sciences, and Rehabilitation and Human Services, and coursework in health and wellness. The Division Head reports directly to the Associate Dean and supervises the divisional Program Chairs. The Division Head shares responsibility for staffing with the divisional Program Chairs and the Associate Dean, coordinates scheduling with the divisional Program Chairs, prepares promotion and tenure dossiers, manages the divisional budget, convenes the Division Council, and works with the college Development Office on institutional advancement initiatives in the Division and with the college Enrollment Management office on recruitment activities. Division Heads frequently serve on college-wide administrative and Faculty Senate standing committees. The successful candidate will be tenurable at the rank of Full Professor based on academic record, commensurate with Penn State University’s criteria for Full Professor, or demonstrate the capacity to be promoted to Full Professor within 1-2 years of appointment. Candidates must also have held a faculty appointment in one of the above disciplines or related fields and have at least 3 years of prior experience as a department head, dean or other similar position as an academic officer. This is a 42-week administrative appointment, allowing time in the summer for continued engagement in scholarly activities and for the option of teaching. Prior experience as a department head, dean, or other academic administrative officer is highly preferred. Penn State Abington is a four-year undergraduate college of Penn State University. It is located three miles from the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Abington, Pennsylvania, 15 miles north of Central Philadelphia.
