Marketing Communications Specialist (Content Specialist)
Strategic Communications is seeking a self-motivated content creator to write campaign copy, long-form content for websites, recruitment materials, and digital collateral, including display ads, paid searches, landing pages, videos, and more. Our primary goal is to align our marketing communications with our brand messaging and content strategy and to partner with other key stakeholders throughout the University to ensure cohesion and collaboration. The successful candidate will collaborate with designers, brand strategists, and external influencers to produce relevant content that meets the needs of Penn State; translate creative direction and copy points from creative briefs into compelling copy and concepts, write in multiple styles while being versatile enough to cover various communications channels (email, digital media, social, video, etc.); contribute to developing messaging and planning campaigns for communications initiatives; collaborate with news and communications partners to source interesting stories (i.e., brand stories). This job will be filled as a level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. A Bachelor's degree in advertising, marketing, English, communications, or relevant field plus two or more years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred. Agency experience is preferred, but not required. Experience with content creation and content marketing as well as strong copyediting and proofreading skills are essential. Candidates should have excellent verbal, written, and organizational skills and the ability to manage concurrent projects. SEO experience working with title tags, meta descriptions, etc., is a plus.
