The Synthetic Environment Applications Laboratory of the Applied Research Laboratory is searching for students with strong programming skills and an interest in data visualization, modeling and simulation, database, GIS, and virtual reality/augmented reality applications. Multiple positions are available that will assist with a variety of projects to develop and apply technical innovations that support our sponsors with improved situational awareness, data understanding, and decision making through the use of advanced visualization, simulation, multi-sensory human computer interfaces, and collaboration technologies. An example of one of our immersive visualization projects is the VR walkthrough of the PSU Pegula Ice Arena. See the video: The SEALab CAVE was used to conduct interactive design reviews prior to construction. Mandatory Position Description Requirements: The selected candidates will work up to 40 hours per week during the summer and 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters. Students in their Sophomore, Junior, or Senior year studying Computer Science or Computer Engineering are encouraged to apply. Job Requirements: The preferred work experience may include such tasks as programming application functionality, building 3D immersive synthetic environments, database ingest and analytics, and modeling and simulation. We are looking for motivated students with strong programming abilities, who can think through problems to present potential design/development solutions and who work well independently, as well as within a team. Experience with C, C++, C#, or Java programming languages is required. Experience with GIS products/concepts, databases, 3D modeling, VR software products, Apache Tomcat/Apache HTTP, and JavaScript/HTML 5 is desired. You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply. Applicants will be subject to a government security investigation. Employment with the Applied Research Laboratory will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.
