Description

The Synthetic Environment Applications Laboratory of the Applied Research Laboratory is searching for students interested in creating 3D immersive AR/VR applications for desktops applications, Head Mounted Displays (e.g., Oculus Rift, HTC Vive), and large format projection displays such as CAVEs. The SEALab projects apply existing computer graphics technology (hardware and software) to specific visualization needs by creating interactive 3D immersive environments. The lab maintains a variety of display systems and associated VR peripherals such as six degree of freedom tracking systems, handheld controllers, and motion capture technology. Our main display system is a five-sided CAVE consisting of four walls and a floor that form a cube illuminated by 3D stereo projectors with an optical tracking system and active 3D stereo shutter glasses to create an immersive 3D virtual reality environment at 1:1 scale. Mandatory Position Description Requirements: The selected candidates will work up to 40 hours per week during the summer and 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters. Students in their Sophomore, Junior, or Senior year studying Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Information Sciences and Technology are encouraged to apply. Job Requirements: The following is required: Strong math skills (3D geometry, trigonometry, and linear algebra); experience with Object Oriented design and implementation using C# or C++; experience with a 3D graphics API (DirectX or OpenGL); an understanding of the graphics pipeline; experience with a 3D rendering and simulation engine (Unity3D preferred); and experience with 3D modelers such as Blender or 3ds Max. An interest in 3D visualization or game development is desired. You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply. Applicants will be subject to a government security investigation. Employment with the Applied Research Laboratory will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.
