Description

The Synthetic Environment Applications Laboratory of the Applied Research Laboratory is seeking to hire a student researcher into the ARL Distinguished Undergraduate Research Program – Under the guidance of an ARL faculty member, students in the program will perform a comprehensive research project and receive training in advanced research methods. The successful candidate will have strong programming skills and an interest in data visualization, modeling and simulation, database, GIS, and virtual reality/augmented reality applications. The position supports a variety of projects to develop and apply technical innovations that support our sponsors with improved situational awareness, data understanding, and decision making through the use of advanced visualization, simulation, multi-sensory human computer interfaces, and collaboration technologies. We are looking for a motivated student with strong programming abilities, who can think through problems to present potential design/development solutions, and who works well independently, as well as within a team. Experience with C, C++, C#, or Java programming languages required. Experience with GIS products/ concepts, databases, 3D modeling, VR software products, Apache Tomcat/ Apache HTTP, and JavaScript/HTML 5 is desired. You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply. The selected candidate will be subject to a government security investigation. Employment with the Applied Research Laboratory will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen. The selected candidate will work up to 40 hours per week during the summers after their sophomore and junior years and up to 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters of their junior and senior years. The student will be required to formally present their research at the end of their final semester. Students completing their sophomore year in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Information Science and Technology with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 are encouraged to apply.
