Penn State Altoona invites applications for the position of Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. The Associate Dean provides leadership and has primary responsibility for all academic programs, academic planning and assessment, program development, curricular review, faculty development, academic support services, and budgetary administration of all units within Academic Affairs. The Associate Dean reports directly to the Chancellor/Dean and acts as the senior administrative officer in the absence of the Chancellor/Dean. The Associate Dean leads the College’s academic team and plays a key role in shaping academic strategy and policy. This position also represents the College on university-wide curricular and policy issues as a member of the University Academic Council on Undergraduate Education. Candidates must possess a terminal degree and credentials appropriate for a tenured appointment as a full or associate professor. Successful candidates will have a strong record of academic administrative experience that demonstrates commitment to academic excellence and student success; support for shared governance and collegial leadership; exceptional communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills; leadership in budget management and planning; appreciation of the role and mission of public higher education; and a thorough understanding of issues and trends affecting higher education. Penn State Altoona (www.altoona.psu.edu) is a two-campus, four-year baccalaureate institution. Situated in the beautiful Allegheny Mountains of Central Pennsylvania, Penn State Altoona offers 25 baccalaureate degrees, five associate degrees, and the first two years of more than 160 Penn State baccalaureate majors. The College is continuing to expand its degree offerings. The campus community includes nearly 3,600 students and over 600 faculty and staff members. Located only 40 miles from the flagship University Park campus, Penn State Altoona offers the advantages of a small college teaching environment with the readily available resources of a major research university.
