Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus is currently recruiting for a temporary Research Technologist. Located in southwestern Pennsylvania, Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus is part of a multi-campus public research university enjoying a world-wide reputation for excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. At the same time, the students have direct access to the extensive educational resources and services of all of The Pennsylvania State. This position is a temporary role to cover a leave of absence. The assignment will likely last several months and will work around 40 hours a week initially. The position responsibilities include the following: Coordinate laboratory experiments with faculty members and prepare students for successful completion of each experiment in the fields of Biology, Chemistry, Ecology, Geology, Microbiology, Physical Therapy Assistant, Electrical Engineering, and Physics. This includes pre-lab set-ups, testing experiments prior to class to ensure proper experiment results, and clean-up after experiment completion. Maintain laboratory inventory, equipment maintenance and proper storage; order supplies; assess labware physical condition; identify needed equipment repairs and request equipment servicing by outside vendors, and budget laboratory costs. Follow OSHA safety guidelines and Penn State safety procedures to ensure that each laboratory is a safe place to occupy while education services are being conducted. Follow chemical and bio-hazardous waste procedures, ensure that proper laboratory safety equipment is supplied and used, identify possible hazards in each lab, monitor all activities in each lab, receive timely annual training from Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), and keep proper documentation in each lab. Serve as the safety officer in the Bio-Medical building. Ensure that all safety procedures are followed in each laboratory and that faculty members are notified of all mandatory training requirements for OSHA and Penn State safety compliance. Serve on committees as requested and meet with EHS and security team members to ensure that all safety issues are identified and resolved. This position requires one year of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
