The Pennsylvania State University ( seeks a highly motivated leader with exceptional strategic, operational, and interpersonal skills and broad expertise to join the leadership team of the university’s enterprise information technology function as Senior Director for Infrastructure. Reporting to the Vice President for IT and Chief Information Officer, the Senior Director will be a key member of the CIO’s senior leadership group and will be expected to envision and implement a best-in-class technology infrastructure that advances the institution’s missions in teaching, research, and service. The Senior Director for Infrastructure provides leadership for maintaining performance and reliability and driving optimization of Penn State’s information technology infrastructure. The Senior Director of Infrastructure is responsible for infrastructure architecture, performance, availability, incident, capacity, configuration, and change management processes and tools to support 24x7 uptime and availability SLAs. The Senior Director will lead staff in enterprise IT, unit-level IT, and stakeholders in teaching, research, and service in developing a clear plan for the future of the University’s infrastructure with business, technology, and financial elements of the plan developed to the point where stakeholders and sponsors commit to the investment. The Senior Director will manage an operating budget of $73M and will inform the development and management of an annual capital budget of $12M. The infrastructure function at present has roughly 175 full-time staff. The ideal candidate for this position has a proven track record of building large, scalable teams as a creative thinker, problem solver, teacher, learner, and leader of people. This candidate will also have the ability to understand network, storage and computing architecture, pinpoint problem areas, uphold product quality, and drive innovation and design with constant engagement with a variety of university stakeholders. A strong understanding of infrastructure development best practices and methodologies to optimize for quality and efficiency and experience with various continuous integration/deployment models for large organizations will be important, along with the acumen needed to adopt and integrate such practices into a dynamic infrastructure environment. An undergraduate degree from an accredited institution and at least 10 years of relevant professional experience is required. Professional activity at the national level is expected and experience in a large, complex, distributed organization is required.
