Description

The Penn State School of International Affairs (www.sia.psu.edu), an interdisciplinary professional school, in conjunction with the Penn State Rock Ethics Institute (rockethics.psu.edu), seeks an Associate Professor (with tenure) to research, teach and collaborate on the intertwined roles of ethics and global development. We are particularly interested in scholars who examine choices made in the distribution, management, and development of renewable and nonrenewable resources (particularly Water, Food and Energy), as they relate to sustainability issues of the environment. A strong focus on the international dimensions of these questions is important. A Ph.D. is required in fields relevant to Environmental Sciences, which might include Geography, Geology, Engineering, Agricultural Sciences, or any other relevant field. It is expected that a competitive candidate will have a demonstrated record of excellence in research, teaching and leadership appropriate to the candidate`s rank. An interest and aptitude for working in interdisciplinary contexts is particularly emphasized. We seek candidates whose work aims to connect academic and policy worlds through the generation of rigorous research with decision making impact. The School of International Affairs (SIA) is a graduate academic unit of The Pennsylvania State University. The School integrates practical and theoretical aspects of international affairs with a set of highly ranked specialized disciplines. The School’s fundamental and motivating vision is to ensure a long-term outstanding contribution to the communities of international professional practitioners and academics nationally and internationally. For additional information regarding SIA, please refer to: www.sia.psu.edu. The successful candidate will be affiliated with the Rock Ethics Institute as one of a transformative series of tenure-track appointments designed to ensure that Penn State becomes a leader in ethics-informed interdisciplinary research and the integration of ethical literacy throughout the University curriculum. The Rock Ethics Institute seeks candidates who will be effective in working on and leading interdisciplinary teams that embed ethical analysis into research projects and who have experience and interest in integrating ethics into undergraduate and graduate curricula. Faculty who are hired will receive a one-course release for the first five years for enhancing existing ethics research and curricular initiatives as well as building new initiatives and programs aligned with the Institute’s mission. To apply, submit an application. Applications must also include a CV, cover letter, a statement of how the candidate’s work is relevant to the Rock Ethics Institute’s mission and how a position within the Institute is likely to augment their own work, and sample publications relevant to the post. Three letters of recommendation and teaching evaluations will be requested on short listing. Salary is highly competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Relocation expenses, including recruitment/relocation incentive, may be authorized in accordance with applicable regulations. Any inquiries regarding the position can be directed to Johannes Fedderke, jwf15@psu.edu. For full consideration, please apply by September 22, 2017.
