WPSU Penn State is seeking a Director of Technology to lead our broadcast engineering, information technology, and facilities staff. The ideal candidate will also have media production and distribution knowledge and experience. Reporting to the General Manager, the Director will provide technical vision for the organization, and will work with the senior leadership team to develop and implement a technology roadmap for WPSU. This involves goal-setting, financial planning, and risk analysis. The Director will need technical expertise, good business sense, supervisory and project management experience, and excellent communications skills to successfully fulfill this role. Working with engineering, IT and media production, the Director will demonstrate awareness of emerging technology trends, ensure compliance with Penn State IT standards and FCC regulations, maintain a stable infrastructure, streamline operations, and advocate for innovative ideas, high production values, and individuals on the team. The Director will develop, evaluate, enhance, and/or implement quality improvement practices, processes, procedures, or policies that have a positive impact on unit operations. The Director will develop and implement practices that promote a culture of diversity, safety, and environmental consciousness and that is conducive to effective relationships among diverse groups of employees. The successful candidate must have a strong understanding of and appreciation for public media’s mission and objectives (though previous work experience in public broadcasting is not required). We seek candidates who are able to advance Outreach’s diversity initiative. This job will be filled as a level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
