Penn State's Enterprise Infrastructure and Operations (EI&O) Software Engineering group (SWE) is looking for a DevOps Architect with experience in creating resilient architectures in hybrid public/private computing clouds. The successful candidate should have a working knowledge of RDBMS and NoSQL databases, message queuing, enterprise logging and metrics collection, isolation of components via virtualization/containerization, service discovery and segmented component security. Responsibilities include advising the team in concepts for the inter-operation of related micro-services that provide zero-down-time deployments and auto-scaling to accommodate growing and shrinking load profiles. In addition this position will help guide the migration of the group's CI/CD tool-chain. Additional desirable skills include Docker, Kubernetes as well as a familiarity with common enterprise components such as LDAP, Kerberos and common authentication and authorization tools, frameworks and patterns. Knowledge of one or more high level programming languages/frameworks is a plus. The selected candidate will work on a variety of projects, both independently and in teams. This job will be filled as a level 3, level 4, or level 5, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs.
