It is expected that the individual in the position will be able to provide technical support to agricultural producers to accomplish three objectives: adopt production practices that contribute to improved water quality through reduced nutrient and pesticide contamination, develop value added crop production enterprises that contribute to economic growth, and improve pesticide management practices to reduce human exposure, pesticide runoff into surface waters and reduce the likelihood of pest resistance. Critical outcomes would be an increased number of nutrient management plans and adoption of approved water quality practices by producers; development of close collaborations with conservation districts would be a positive impact; development of examples of value added crop production and demonstration of improvements in the awareness, knowledge and use of pesticides would also be critical for success. While we are seeking disciplinary expertise in nutrient management, it is expected that competitive candidates will have a general understanding of agronomic practices. Team members are expected to work closely with university-based research faculty in developing and conducting applied research that is relevant to the state-wide customer needs. The individual must be able to work effectively in a team and with the diverse populations and audiences. The successful candidate will need to develop and/or participate in interdisciplinary collaborations across multiple Extension Program Teams and outside institutions. They must possess a valid driver's license, use of a private automobile, and the ability to travel across several counties. This position is an opportunity to join one of the nation’s leading extension organizations at a time when it is embarking on a new and exciting new business model that encourages risk taking and innovation. Review of applications will begin September, 1 2017 and will remain open until a suitable candidate is hired.
