Description

The Complex Systems Monitoring Department in the Materials and Manufacturing Office of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) seeks a MS or PhD student into the Graduate Assistantship program. This assistantship provides full tuition and fees as well as a monthly stipend for graduate students admitted into the program. The graduate student will be working in the area of condition based maintenance, prognostic health management, and predictive analytics. The work will entail applying vibration and position sensors to engines, drive trains, and valve and actuator systems and developing prognostic health management and data analytics techniques to predict system failure. The student will develop an understanding of the failure modes of the systems and how sensors and data processing can detect the early onset of various failure modes. Graduate Assistants must be enrolled at Penn State as Graduate Students working towards advanced degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Industrial Engineering. Students must be available to work up to 20 hours per week. Candidates must be accepted into the Penn State Graduate School. Successful candidates typically have an undergraduate GPA of 3.5 or above during their junior and senior years. You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply. Employment with the Applied Research Laboratory will require successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
